United currently trail group leaders Real Sociedad by 3 points and they need to win this evening at Old Trafford and in San Sebasti\u00e1n next week to finish top of Group E.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ronaldo returns to the fold having been banished from the first-team in the wake of his unsportsmanlike behaviour last week. Less than 24 hours after United&#8217;s impressive victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford last Wednesday, a club statement was issued that the 37-year-old was not to be part of the squad against Chelsea.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.365scores.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/10\/MUFC-statement.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1313\" width=\"250\" height=\"225\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Cristiano responded with a statement of his own via his social channels:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">? It has since been suggested United&#8217;s #7 refused to come on with his side <em>2-0<\/em> up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>United then travelled to London, without Ronaldo, for a showdown at Stamford Bridge which ended in a <em>1-1<\/em> stalemate. Despite featuring in neither of the clashes with Spurs and Chelsea, Cristiano has managed to steal the spotlight from a resurgent United team under Ten Hag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ronaldo has been a thorn in the side since the very beginning of the 52-year-old\u2019s regime, when the Portuguese missed the first week of training and then United\u2019s pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia, due to \u2018family reasons\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ronaldo eventually appeared in United&#8217;s final pre-season friendly with Rayo Vallecano, in which he made a beeline for the Old Trafford tunnel after being substituted off at half-time. At the time Ten Hag disapproved of Ronaldo&#8217;s actions, saying it is &#8216;unacceptable&#8217; for everyone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/static.wixstatic.com\/media\/6540fa_0d971f570cc54f7d99ef6529e103cf02~mv2.jpg\/v1\/fill\/w_300,h_300,fp_0.50_0.50,q_90\/6540fa_0d971f570cc54f7d99ef6529e103cf02~mv2.webp\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Missing the bulk of pre-season has taken its toll on Ronaldo and he is evidently not up to speed with his fellow teammates who are continually working towards the manager&#8217;s demands of a high press.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fact of the matter is that, whether or not Ronaldo realises it, Man Utd are a better team without him. In what was their best all-round performance under the new manager, he opted to walk out on his triumphant teammates rather than remaining beyond the final whistle to celebrate altogether.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With his long-awaited homecoming just 13 months in the past, Ronaldo is now tarnishing his reputation with the club and its fanbase. Regardless of fame and legacy, he conducted himself in an unprofessional manner and Ten Hag had every right to take disciplinary action against the five-time Champions League winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many including this writer believe the Dutch coach has handled the situation brilliantly, stamping his authority on the players and bringing an end to the days of player power at United. The questions remain: who will want him and who can afford his extortionate salary demands?
